Case Study 1: Akina – A Social Network for Deeper Human Connection
Project Goal:
Design a new kind of social network focused on authenticity, intentional connection, and emotional well-being.
Target Users:
Women—particularly women of color —seeking genuine, emotionally supportive digital spaces free from comparison culture and performative posting.
Key UX Achievements
- Emotion-first Interaction Design: Instead of “likes,” users select from mood states (e.g., Calm, Curious, Empowered, Reflective).
- Intention-based Feed Algorithm: Prioritizes posts by emotional relevance, cyclical behavior patterns, and context of shared experiences (e.g., motherhood, career shifts, dating).
- Guided Reflection Tools: Prompts encourage vulnerability and honest expression (e.g., “What’s been sitting on your heart today?”).
- Privacy & Circle Controls: Intuitive radial selector to share content with close friends, support circles, or anonymous spaces.
Design Innovations
- Soft, human-centered UI using natural color palettes and tactile motion.
- Safe space mode: auto-hides potentially triggering content and allows users to set their own emotional “boundaries” for content consumption.
- Wellness-first onboarding, offering journaling and peer groups based on shared experiences.

Case Study 2: Unsun Cosmetics – Inclusive Sunscreen for Women of Color
Project Goal:
Redesign e-commerce experience to highlight skin-inclusive sunscreen products and simplify shade-matching for diverse users.
Target Users:
Women of color seeking non-chalky, high-SPF, non-toxic sun protection.
Key UX Achievements
- Inclusive Shade Finder Tool: AI-powered quiz uses camera and lifestyle questions to recommend best-match SPF product.
- Tone Realism Toggle: Product photos adapt to display on varying skin tones to preview finish in real-life lighting conditions.
- Melanin Education Hub: UX-integrated content explaining why sun protection matters for all skin tones.
Design Innovations
- Seamless before/after swipe UI for product effect previews.
- Live skin-tone simulation in AR (WebAR version on mobile).
- Frictionless checkout with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and BNPL integrations optimized for mobile.

Case Study 3 :MGO – A Premium Streaming Platform from Technicolor x DreamWorks
Project Goal:
Create a family-friendly yet high-end streaming experience combining cinematic storytelling and cutting-edge tech.
Target Users:
Parents, animation fans, and premium content subscribers seeking curated family and adult viewing.
Key UX Achievements
- Dual Mode Navigation: “Storytime Mode” (for kids with oversized UI and voice controls) and “Studio Mode” (for adults with cinematic browsing experience).
- Scene-Based Browsing: Users can browse films by key animated scenes or emotional beats (e.g., “Epic Chase” or “Cozy Moment”).
- Cinematic Discovery Engine: Custom-built recommendation engine based on scene aesthetics and story arcs, not just user behavior.
Design Innovations
- Spatial audio previews on hover or scroll.
- DreamWorks x Technicolor Design Language: smooth gradients, floating cards, soft shadows for warmth.
- Accessibility First: fully navigable via remote, screen reader–friendly, closed caption customization.
